My Comment on California’s Excuses Are Damaging Faith in Government
NYT is seemingly playing its part in the “we’re onboard with perpetuating unease and distrust” by reporting that ANYTHING creates these things. And NYT’s editorial board shouldn’t be the arbiter of what is and isn’t “convincing”, hyperlink not withstanding.
While citing inarticulate state and international histories of electoral practice, why not include a huge chunk of such history which many consider the original NeoCon coup of 2000: the Supreme Court stepping in to halt the vote count in what used to be a GOP-railed “no-no” in constitutionally mandated State-run elections. Why? The unforeseen (shite happens) hanging chad issue in the Florida balloting.
Some would find that to be a pretty doggone convincing reason to take extra time to “get it right”. The Supreme Court got it wrong and now continues to do so as an installed-for-regime-policies NON-court, one of myriad facets of our government in frighteningly dire need of reform, if there are such opportunities.
Stating that Trump’s criminality and immorality (at least you checked that box--nice save) don’t make all Democratic measures “wise ones” is merely another perverse end-around argument that wreaks of program collaboration.
THAT ALONE sows distrust.
Blaming California’s efforts to get it right for garnering suspicion is tantamount to blaming a rape victim for inviting the intrusion.
One wonders who NYT is catering to with this veiled fealty. Is it unfair or overly suspicious to posit that it could be, might be… AIPAC?
