Mother and Child Reunion
A re-posting of a favorite from what should have been the darkest time.
It’s Mothers Day. To analyze another writer’s lyrics and their origin is a fool’s errand (of which I’ve been repeatedly guilty, but hey…) though how a song resonates within any heart is indeed a personal and mystically dynamic process.
This song is one that began speaking differently to me 5 years ago, when so many of us had more idle time than we ever thought would be useful or desired. Those of us who regularly subsist within the creative process perhaps had an easier time with that aspect of the “lockdown”. I followed the call to record this rendition of Paul Simon’s classic when our frustration and isolation seemed at a peak.
What we’re experiencing presently is of another more threatening, albeit absurdly ignorable type. It will be increasingly ever less ignorable to more and more of us. Women and Mothers by and large know what’s best for all. Because what’s worse for all could end anything nurturing, joyful and promising for our society’s future.
Paul Simon’s MOTHER AND CHILD REUNION. Only a movement away.
