An Experienced Take on Jennifer Weiner’s Oops, Justin Timberlake Did It Again
Celebrity culture aside--thanks--and prurient schadenfreude notwithstanding, many --including the author--seem to be lobbing sanctimonious judgements of a variety of aspects, reactions and consequences surrounding the statutory offense of DUI.
It's disheartening to see the easy allusions to "shenanigans, bad behavior, foolishness" etc.
Some of us have actually experienced the not-too-veiled stroke of grace that is this consequence--unintended, grave (yes, the tour was or will be disrupted and many paychecks will be discontinued and/or altered) and embarrassing. If there had been a mishap resulting in injury or worse, the seriousness of the lapse in judgement would have been all the more.
There are few wake-up calls so salient as these episodes that render the "oops"-ies. The lapse in judgement is most always regrettable but often NOT a reflection on one's character, but more the abject symptom of powerlessness over an addiction to a judgement impairing substance or activity.
Many have been repeatedly confronted repeatedly with these "unforced errors" until we came to understand we needed help, admitting to ourselves and at least one other that our lives had become unmanageable.
Justin is a truly gifted and dedicated artist who seems like a good dude, and I wish him nothing but the best.
