Presidential Third Party Is A Pipe Dream
Comment on Opinion "Follow the money: No Labels can’t hide its right-wing ties" by Jennifer Rubin https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2023/06/27/no-labels-third-party-right-wing-ties/
15 or so years ago, No Labels was encouragingly somewhat synonymous with Problem Solvers, and many of us exulted in the promise of a once-again non/bi partisan legislative cooperative spirit that found some sort of codified organization.
Like so much else, they too have morphed into something suspect at best and sinister at worst.
Jennifer has uncovered what may be a truly cynical effort here, regardless of the admirable if not totally naïve posture of well-meaning voters longing for some sort of ideological transcendence. As in (Presidential) electoral seasons before, their holistic interests will be exploited for their eagerness to believe that there is a lavender-mist third party politically empty shaman candidate like a Marianne Williamson or the who's-kidding-who clownish RFK Jr. There will be (already is) another generation of academic Karl Marx spouting youth pioneering an ages old new discovery of codified community. Bernie Sanders' media sabotaged candidacy should have taught some lessons there, and he more than hinted that it should via his dignified but pyrrhic cede to supporting the Democratic candidate once his effort was vanquished.
The facts remain that we are a two-party system and although third (and perhaps fourth etc) party interests can and should be represented on local and state levels, the next elected President WILL BE one of those two candidates just as in every other Presidential election in recent history.
The now criminal GOP is almost ridiculously unified and will be more so by next Spring. It's time that Democrats became so regardless of how much "vote your conscious" or "I can't vote for either" sentiment may be abounding.
The No Labels effort will succeed only in winnowing down the field, diluting the viability of each. We're shown (thank you, Ms. Rubin) who's the Geppetto pulling these purse/puppet strings, and the picture is all the more clear.
The next President will be Democrat or Republican. Those will be the labels. Vote. The Republicans suppress your vote. The Democrats are supporting it. Why spit on or sit out that championship effort?
