PODCAST: JC's Hyper-Heard Trivia, Ep. 1--Bobby Hebb's "SUNNY"
This was initially posted on the day commemorating the Patron Saint of Ireland, evoking a universe of face-bracing coastal gusts and glimpses of verdancy through chilled (and stout!) Celtic mists, but I’m going the other way.
Let’s greet that poetic penumbra and partner it with sunlight, hope and music! That’s the typical Irish trait of which I’m most proud and most zealously seek to display whenever it might be mustered.
So…
… we had a blast recording this little listening hang. I LOVE talking about songs, records and pop/soul music.
But, to be qualified for having “hyper-hearing”, I must clarify with a correction: Contrary to my claim within this show, Bobby Hebb’s voice (and a few other elements in this wonderfully vivid sonic image) does indeed enjoy a minimal, extremely subtle (nearly comparable to the “b” in “subtle”), warm and distantly ambient reverb. He’s still right there in front of you, though! I’m a little hyper about…
…one of the classic recordings that’s grown ever present and loved in my soul mansion of endearment is “SUNNY” by Bobby Hebb.
We get “under the hood” of its production and the intentional (and unintentional) devices that make this production sound so good, and conspired to make this one of the true classics.
Holler and let me know if/how you like this little hang, as we’ll be doing more, and I’d love your suggestions for other recordings old and new that would benefit from this bit of additional concerted effort to illuminate some heretofore overlooked esoteric appreciables!
Sunny, one so true—we love you!
